Weekly Message from the Board President

There is a solemn event at the Synagogue tonight. We will be commemorating Yom Hashoah, which remembers the millions of innocent victims of the Holocaust. Rabbi Halfon will be leading the service, which he says will include poetry, prayers, and songs. The service begins at 7 PM at the Synagogue. It will also be on Zoom. The Zoom call begins at 6:30. Here’s the Zoom info: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83569049988 Meeting ID: 835 6904 9988.

On a lighter note, Matani Ravenna’s Beginning Hebrew class has been a resounding success. There are a few more sessions left. It meets on Tuesday nights, and has gone into depth on the Hebrew language, as well as helping participants learn enough to be able to enjoy a pleasant trip to Israel. Thank you, Matani, for all your hard work in preparing and teaching the class! We’ll call on you to do it again.

We have a number of activities that are gearing up. Cooking for the Yiddish Food Festival is now underway and we’re always looking for volunteers. Please check with the Synagogue office for the schedule. We usually cook Sunday afternoons, but there are also times during the week (Wednesdays, for example) when we fire up the ovens.

We have launched a new Caring Committee. The committee will reach out to people who are sick or need a hand in our community and help wherever we can. It could be running a small errand, or just paying a visit to someone who can’t get out because of their illness. If this sounds right for you… let our office know.

Our First Saturday Shabbat Service was delayed a week. It will be this coming Saturday. We’ll be honoring Judith and Ed Clark, and thanking them for their help and support for the Synagogue. Judith worked in the Synagogue office for many years, and was the “face” of Mt. Sinai. She was always the friendly voice at the other end of the phone when someone called. Judith also served on the Board of Directors. Ed was her rock and support, and without him, we probably wouldn’t have had the benefit of all of Judith’s time. He also volunteers at the Synagogue. So come this Saturday and help us celebrate these wonderful people.

A quick reminder about the Endowment Fund’s fundraising efforts. The Fund is raising money for the sponsorships of two chairs… one for Tim Solon in the small sanctuary, and one for Harlan Ribnik. The Endowment Fund invests the money donated and never spends it. A small portion of the interest is used by the Synagogue. If you would like to donate, please use our website or contact the Synagogue office.

Here’s our Yiddish Phrase of the Week:

A ber lernt men oykh oys tantsn.
Even a bear can be taught to dance.

Shalom,

Dave Lerner
President
Mt. Sinai Board of Directors

The match was launched by Barry and Gay Curtiss-Lusher from a shelter in a Tel Aviv Hotel and JEWISHcolorado Board Chair Ben Lusher and his wife Nicole.
